Here Comes the Bride…

•August 30, 2016 • 1 Comment

It has been a LONG time since I posted last, and a lot has changed in my life. I got married and moved to a new state. While my blog may have been on my mind, there were a lot of other plans that just took precedence at the time.

I married a man that I would have never expected to come back into my life after 33 years apart, but I am so grateful that he did and for the life we now share together. To my single friends I say, waiting is worth it, and it’s never to late to find someone.

To me, the older you get, the simpler your wedding is. Gone are the tons of people, and every extravagant thing you can possibly think of. It was less people and simple…..beautiful, but simple. Just what I wanted. My advice…spend money on your pictures. Those last a lifetime. Get great pictures to make your memories last. The cake, the venue, the meal, none of that lasts but your photographs you take with you. I had a fabulous photographer friend who took our pictures, and they are wonderful. From our engagement shots, to our wedding shots I loved them. Looking for a photographer for your event? I highly recommend Sandra Ellen Photography in Grand Rapids MI. You will not be disappointed!

Until next time…

Playing Dress Up

I haven’t bought a dress in a long time. This season though they have a lot of cute ones…even if some do seem to look like it is the 70’s all over again. I have a wedding to go to next month so I decided to see what I could find. It is an afternoon wedding so more casual than a black tie affair! I had in my head what I was looking for. I would say that I am truly a pear shape so I was looking for something with an a-line feel to it.

I like Younkers! Being plus size, they have a very nice department with a really good variety to choose from. I actually bought the first dress I tried on. It is a slight A-line with a short v-neck and is sleeveless. It is made by Calvin Klein and not to dressy so I can get more use out of it. Because it is sleeveless, I picked up a cropped three quarter sleeve sweater to wear with it.

My final decision will be shoes and a necklace. I have a couple options, so we will see how that goes! I expected it to take a lot longer to find a dress, but when you see it, like it, and it fits, then get it! Oh, and it was on sale too! Yay for me!

Showing Respect

I don’t necessarily like ranting about things, but an article that I read concerning Keely Shaye Smith Brosnan really aggrevated me. This was the title of the article “23 Sexiest Celebrities With Ugly Significant Others” written 3/7/14 on Celebromance.com. I discovered it as a link at the bottom of another article I was reading. They proceeded to say that because she is heavy that makes her by default an ugly significant other. And why in the world when Pierce Brosnan can get any woman, would he settle for that. Oh yeah, and by the way he loves her anyway.

Are you kidding me! She doesn’t need me to defend her at all, but it is highly offensive to say that because she is overweight that somehow makes her ugly, and less of a person because of it. I get so tired of reading that overweight people have no place in the world. No one actually says those exact words, but the undertone is there. We talk about bullying and how wrong it is, yet we do it everyday, with a look or a smirk, or a joke. Magazines devote hundreds of pages to thin models, and one obligatory page to “plus size” women. Designers snub their nose at extended sizes, like those of us who are of that size don’t deserve to wear nice things.

“It’s just not healthy” always comes up as the reason why it is disturbing to see overweight people. Newsflash, health comes in all shapes and sizes. Skinny people have disorders, heavy people have disorders. Health issues are no respecter of a persons size. I understand that being overweight is a factor for some health issues, but that doesn’t mean we deserve less, or that makes us somehow subhuman.

Guess what, I am overweight, and constantly trying to ride the roller coaster of losing weight, gaining weight and losing weight. It is a never ending battle. Oh yeah, by the way, I also currently don’t take any prescribed medications, and haven’t called in sick to work in years. Of course, things can change, but stop lumping all overweight people together as being a drain on society. I can think of a lot of other things that are draining on society….but that is a whole other rant!

I don’t know about your opinion, but Keely is beautiful. Not to mention she is married to a former 007! Their love story is no one else’s business, even if he is a celebrity. So, I implore us all to somehow learn to show a little more respect to one another. I’m sure the world would be a much better place if we could do that.

Miracle Gel Polish Review

•August 10, 2014 • 1 Comment

I tried the new Miracle Gel Polish from Sally Hansen. It is a two step process for gel nails without the need for the uv light. They claim to give up to 14 days with no chipping. I made it 5 days, but they were really looking worn by that day and starting to chip and peel. By the end of the night I had picked it all off. You know how it goes…once you start picking at them you can’t stop! During the week, they also started developing stress lines across the nail. It looked like I had taken a sharp tool and run it multiple time over the nail. It also had a more dull finish by that last day. I kept applying a top coat to keep it shiny.

I did use the Sally Hansen Insta Dry after the top coat to help speed the drying time. I don’t know if this had an impact on the polish and that was why those lines were appearing. I work on a computer all day for work, so my nails are constantly clicking away. I don’t wear polish to often since it chips so easily. I did acrylics for a while, but it gets expensive, and really I am just after the polish staying on longer.

I think it is worth a try for you, however it is a $14 to $20 investment in this polish the first time you get it. I used the black polish. I wear my nails shorter and really like the darker colors on them.

My next try is from Pinterest using Sally Hansen Hard asWraps as a base, any polish color you choose, and then the Sally Hansen No Chip top coat. I have that on my nails right now, so I will let you know how that goes!
